How we work out prices, lows and verdicts
How the numbers on price-history.in are worked out, in plain words.
Where prices come from
We record the selling price of each product at Amazon.in, Flipkart and Croma. Bank, card and coupon offers depend on who you are and how you pay, so they are never mixed into the price history.
One year, counted from the latest price
Every chart and figure covers the 365 days up to a product's latest recorded price. If a store stops selling a product, its page still shows that final year.
Models and variants
A model page brings together the listings of one model across stores. Listings with the same RAM and storage (or screen size) form one variant; colours share a variant and show at their lowest price. The chart follows one variant at a time, with one line per store.
Lowest, average and highest
For each day we take the lowest price among the stores. The 1-year low, high and average are worked out from those daily prices. The 30- and 90-day lows use the last 30 and 90 days.
The verdict
The verdict looks only at where today's best price sits between the year's lowest and highest price:
- Good time to buy: within 2% of the 1-year low.
- Fair price: above that, but at or below the 1-year average.
- Wait for a drop: above the average, up to 60% of the way to the high.
- Near its 1-year high: higher than that.
- Steady price: when the year's highest price is within 5% of its lowest.
We need at least 10 days of prices to give a verdict. We don't forecast.
Prices during sales
For each big sale inside the year (Amazon Prime Day and Great Indian Festival, Flipkart Big Billion Days) we show the lowest daily price while the sale ran.
What we leave out
We don't show adult products, and we don't include medicines, refurbished or renewed items, or accessories in model pages.
